Sunday Bulletin – 4/29/18

Greeting and Church-wide Announcements – Gage Warner

Welcome!

Adults – there is a Sunday school opportunity for you weekly – 10am
Youth – we have a new opportunity for Sunday school coming in a few weeks! It will be at 10am at the Parsonage. Children’s Sunday school is during worship, following children’s message
We have youth every Sunday evening too – 5:30-7:30pm

There are currently three Bible study opportunities – for MEN and WOMEN:
The new one is: What? So What? Now What? on Mondays at 9:30 – a discussion of the coming Sunday’s scripture! The great thing about this study is that you can attend any Monday you are available – since the weeks do not build upon themselves!

Wednesday’s study is “Pray Then Like This . . . ” a study of the Lord’s Prayer at 7pm
Friday’s “Bible Talk” – walking slowly through the Bible, beginning at Genesis and going chapter by chapter. They gather at 9am

Total is the 5th Sunday in April so that means – Potluck time! If you brought food, thank you! If you didn’t, PLEASE KNOW YOU ARE INVITED TO STAY AND EAT TOO! The food will be set up in the kitchen, so fix your plate and either grab one of the few seats in there – or join us outside for a love day!

We also want to thank those who have contributed new picnic tables! Rod & Shirley Thomason
Tony & Linda Gavin
Stacy PlasekCarolyn Swafford
Leo Schakel
and Keri & Leo Coldiron

Tonight the youth’s project will be to finish assembling those that need assembly – SO all handymen are invited to come join us at 5:30 and make this a fun event for all!!

Fox Fest – a City event, is May 5th, 8am-3pm. Youth will be holding a dunk booth as a fund raiser – and the church is sponsoring the Hot Dog Eating Contest – be sure and come downtown and enjoy the festival.

And also, the church will be holding a garage sale here at the church on the same day – May 5th! Contribute garage sale items now – Teresa will be talking to you more about that in a few minutes. The garage sale is also a fund raiser for the youth – to help defray the cost of summer camp!

Another opportunity – if you would like to purchase flowers for a Sunday that is special to you, that is a new opportunity as well. Read all about it in the Weekly Update this week.

And last – we are collecting pictures of your loved ones who are living in the heavenly realm with Jesus. You can either email them to pastor@caddomillsumc.org or bring a picture and Cathy will scan it and return to you. These pictures are needed by May 15th please!

The ability to sign up for Sunday flowers, to participate in worship, and to provide snack supper to the youth is done through Sign Up Genius. Links can be found in the weekly update and on the back of the bulletin.

* Call to Worship (Adapted from Psalm 104) – Kenley Blackwell

Kenley: Merciful God, these people all look to you
to give them their food in due season;

People: when you give to us, we gladly gather it up;
when you open your hand, we fill ourselves with good things.

Kenley: When you hide your face, O God, your people are dismayed;
when you take away their breath, they die and return to dust.

People: When you send forth your spirit, we are created;
and you renew the face of the earth.

Kenley: May the glory of the Lord endure forever;

People: may the Lord rejoice in his works—
Kenley: God, who looks on the earth and it trembles,
who touches the mountains and they smoke.

People: Yet I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.

All: Praise the Lord!

Opening Prayer – Kenley Blackwell

In the silence of the stars,
In the quiet of the hills,
In the heaving of the sea – Speak Lord!

In the voice of a friend,
In the chatter of a child,
In the words of a stranger – Speak Lord!
In the stillness of this room,
In the calming of our minds,
In the longing of our hearts – Speak Lord!

In the opening of The Book,
In the looking of a film,
In the listening to music – Speak Lord!
For your servant listens.
Amen.

Ash Wednesday Bulletin – February 14, 2018

Welcome – Teresa Whitney

* Call to Worship – Nathan Blackwell

Leader: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

PEOPLE: AND ALSO WITH YOU.
Leader: The season of Lent calls us to journey along the edge,
to anticipate that final trip to Jerusalem.
PEOPLE: LENT CALLS US TO THE CUTTING EDGE,
WHEN THE WHEAT FALLS TO THE GROUND
AND NEW LIFE COMES FORTH.
Leader: Lent not only calls us to give up something,
but also invites us to participate in the mystery of
God-with-us.
PEOPLE: BY YOUR GRACE, CALL US FROM GRIEF INTO GLADNESS,
DESPAIR INTO HOPE, ESTRANGEMENT INTO RIGHT RELATIONS WITH
EACH OTHER AND WITH THE EARTH.

* Opening Prayer – Nathan Blackwell

O God,
maker of every thing and judge of all that you have made,
from the dust of the earth you have formed us
and from the dust of death you would raise us up.

By the redemptive power of the cross,
create in us clean hearts
and put within us a new spirit,
that we may repent of our sins
and lead lives worthy of your calling;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.

* Grace So Glorious
Acolyte brings in the Light of Christ

* 881 Affirmation of Faith – Jonathan Rea

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;

and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was a crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven an sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Confession based on Psalm 51

Leader: Have mercy upon us, O God, according to your loving kindness. In your great compassion blot out our offenses.

PEOPLE: WASH ME THROUGH AND THROUGH FROM MY WICKEDNESS
AND CLEANSE ME FROM MY SINS,
FOR I KNOW MY TRANSGRESSIONS, AND MY SINS ARE EVER BEFORE ME.

Leader: Against you only have we sinned and done what is evil in your sight. So you are justified when you speak and upright in all your judgments.

PEOPLE: PURGE ME FROM MY SINS, AND I SHALL BE PURE WASH ME, AND I SHALL BE CLEAN INDEED.

Leader: Hide your face from our sins and blot out all our iniquities. Create in us a clean heart and renew in us a right spirit, O Lord.

(SILENT PRAYER)

Leader: Give us the joy of your saving help again, and sustain us with your bountiful spirit.

PEOPLE: OPEN MY LIPS, O GOD,
AND MY MOUTH SHALL DECLARE YOUR PRAISE.

Leader: Lord God, you are the one who forgives us and teaches us
what is right and shows us the way we should go. You are the one who
provides us with all that we need and protects all those who callupon your name.
Help us O God to remember your unfailing
love, to give thanks for your forgiveness and your mercy, and to
rely upon your saving and healing power. For these and all
our blessings, help us now to praise you with thankful and contrite
hearts, we ask it in Jesus’ name.

ALL: AMEN.

Prayer of Thanksgiving – Rev. Cathy Partridge
All things come from you, O God,
and with praise and thanksgiving we return to you what is yours.
You created all that is, and with love formed us in your image.
When our love failed, your love remained steadfast.
You gave your only Son Jesus Christ to be our Savior,
that we might have abundant and eternal life.
All that we are, and all that we have, is a trust from you.
And so, in gratitude for all that you have done,
we offer you ourselves, and all that we have,
in union with Christ’s offering for us.
By your Holy Spirit make us one with Christ, one with Each other,
and one in ministry to all the world;through Jesus Christ our Lord, who taught us to pray:

God is our light and our salvation; whom shall we fear?
GOD IS OUR SHELTER AND REFUGE ON THE DAYS OF TROUBLE, AND OUR HOPE AND JOY ON THE DAYS OF CELEBRATION!

Day after day, we seek God’s face and the assurance of God’s holy love;
O GOD, DO NOT TURN FROM US OR HIDE YOUR FACE FROM US! BE OUR GUIDE AND OUR LIGHT INSTEAD!

One thing we ask of God:
THAT WE MAY LIVE IN GOD’S DWELLING PLACE ALL THE DAYS OF OUR LIFE, AND NEVER CEASE TO BEHOLD THE BEAUTY OF GOD’S HOME.
