CMUMC Weekly Update 1-11-18

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. … And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth. John 1:1-5, 14

According to John, the Word of God existed before the creation of the heavens and the earth, and this Word participated in the work of creation with God. In particular, the Word was responsible for the creation of life, “the light of all people.” In time, this Word took human form and lived among us as Jesus Christ, God’s only son. Christians call this the Incarnation, meaning God “in flesh.” In his earthly ministry, Jesus spoke the Word of God with unparalleled clarity and power.  What do you find important about the link between the Word and the many words that appear throughout the Gospel?

When I think of the intensity of that question, a saying someone once shared with me comes to mind. I find it both simple and poignant.  “If it doesn’t smell like feet, it’s probably not the Gospel.”
The vision statement for Caddo Mills UMC is: We are an amazingly friendly church, with people of all ages and stages, committed to loving God and one another by spreading the GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ!  To me (and hopefully to you), that means that we should smell like feet.
The Parsonage . . . did you know that the parsonage is being completely remodeled and updated?  This work began around the first of December and is still a long way from being completed.  (Yes, Brad and I are still living with my sister and brother-in-law and all of our belongs are in storage!). You can help, first by volunteering.  Talk to Andy Seymour if you have time, talents or encouragement to contribute.  Second, financially.  As it seems with all renovations, maintaining a budget is difficult.  We are several thousands of dollars away from completing the work, so if you would like to make a special contribution to the parsonage fund, the funds would be greatly appreciated.
The Church . . . your Church Council agrees that CMUMC is in need of a logo.  An image that captures who we are and what we are about.  Re-read the vision statement above, then let your mind be creative.  The Council will accept all ideas and decide on the top choice at the meeting in March.  So, get creative and submit your ideas before March 1.  The logo will be used on shirts, hats, business cards, whatever and wherever we can put it!
