CMUMC Weekly Update – 2/22/18

Pastor Tom posted the following story on Facebook.  It really got me thinking.

Little Johnny had been pawing over a stationer’s stock of greeting cards for some time when a clerk asked, “Just what is it you’re looking for? A birthday greeting, message to a sick friend, anniversary or a congratulations to your mom and dad?”

Little Johnny shook his head and answered, “Got any like a blank report card?”

Looks like Little Johnny realized he was in hot water if his parents found out what his grades really were.  He wanted to hide the truth.  The problem is, sooner or later, the truth always comes out.  That’s what makes confession a necessary part of being a follower of Christ.

Each of us is a work in progress.  Each of us has failed to live up to our commitment to put God first.  Each of us, at times, wants to pretend as if we’ve got it all figured out.  But that is not our way.

As distasteful as it is, take a few moments this morning to tell God where you have failed him.  Ask for forgiveness and know that you are truly forgiven.  That is what this Lenten journey to the cross is all about.  Which is why John said, ” If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
